Retail and trucking companies will be held responsible if they are found to pressure drivers to speed to keep their delivery schedules

Nationwide law reforms targeting speeding by truck drivers passed State Parliament yesterday in a bid to slash the road toll... It will make both freight companies and the companies moving goods liable for fines if their practices are seen to encourage drivers to speed... Previously, enforcement of speeding laws have mainly targeted drivers... The reforms are designed to tackle the problem of speeding heavy vehicles in the interests of road safety and have the support of the industry, the RAA, opposition and independents... National Transport Commission chief executive, Nick Dimopoulos, has indicated penalties would include court-imposed corporate fines of up to $50,000... South Australian Road Transport Association executive director, Steve Shearer, yesterday said the reforms were overdue...
