TRUCKING INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE * Kenya - Inflation pushes transporters to increase charges

Nairobi,Kenya -The Business Daily Africa, by Zeddy Sambu -April 7, 2009: -- Truck companies have increased transportation costs by 13 per cent, signalling a possible rise in the cost of imported goods when traders pass on the costs to consumers... This, the transporters say, is in line with the rising cost of doing business in the country... The Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) — the umbrella body that brings together owners of large fleets — said this was the agreed increase in costs, but members were free to set even higher rates in line with operations... A survey by the Business Daily showed some truck owners had increased their costs by up to 30 per cent... (Photo: Inflation and weight limits have pushed truck firms to raise charges)
