* USA - Holland fifth wheel available on Freightliner trucks
USA -Fleet Owner -Mar 17, 2009: -- Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced the Holland FW aluminum fifth wheel is now available as an option on its Freightliner long-haul and heavy-duty models... Developed through a collaboration between SAF-Holland and Alcoa, the Holland FW fifth wheel improves fuel economy, reduces emissions and hauls heavier payloads at a light weight, DTNA said... In addition, the fifth wheel also incorporates NoLube technology, which eliminates the need to lube the top plate or locks, reducing maintenance and service costs while offering cleaner and more environmentally-friendly service, the company said...
* USA - Eaton to Close Indiana Transmission Plant
Greenfield,Ind.,USA -Bloomberg/Transport Topics -16 March 2009: -- Truck parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. plans to close a plant in Greenfield, Ind., and move its operations to North Carolina and Mexico, Bloomberg reported... The plant, whose 105 employees will be laid off, remanufactures truck clutches and assembles medium-duty transmissions... Eaton predicts plant will be closed by the end of October...

USA -Fleet Owner (Subscribers only) -March 17, 2009: -- Navistar has announced that its new MaxxPower brand components will soon be available for its International brand trucks, IC Bus brand school and commercial buses and Workhorse chassis products. MaxxPower products include drivetrain and suspension components and options such as auxiliary no-idle solutions, the company said. They will be designed and engineered by and for Navistar as original equipment and factory-installed...
* Germany - MAN completes buy of VW truck, bus ops in Brazil
Frankfurt,Germany -The Associated Press/The International Herald (France) -March 17, 2009: -- German truckmaker MAN AG said Tuesday the company completed the €1.2 billion ($1.5 billion) purchase of Volkswagen AG's truck and bus operations in Brazil, announced in December... Munich-based MAN said the unit had sales of about €2 billion in fiscal 2008, and that its Latin American operations will be integrated into a new business unit called MAN Latin America... The new unit will be headed by Roberto Cortes, a Brazilian, who will also join the MAN management board, the equivalent of a board of directors...
