Arlington,VA,USA -Transport Topics -12 March 2009: -- An American Transportation Research Institute study sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration found that the benefits of three separate onboard safety systems outweigh the costs to motor carriers... The study researched forward collision warning systems, lane departure warning systems and roll stability control systems, and found that for each dollar spent on these systems, the benefit to motor carriers is greater than that... For forward collision warning systems, carriers see $1.33 to $6.55 of savings for each dollar spent, depending on factors such as how many miles each truck drives... For lane departure systems, the benefit is $1.37 to $6.55, and for roll stability control systems, the benefit is $1.66 to $9.36... ATRI considered costs such as labor, property damage, worker's compensation, legal costs and more when analyzing the benefits of the safety systems...
