* Sweden - Scania’s 4Q Profit Declines

Stockholm,Sweden - Bloomberg -3 Feb 2009: -- Swedish truck maker Scania AB’s fourth-quarter net income fell to about $180 million, or 23 cents a share in the first quarterly earnings drop in more than three years... Profit was about $324 million last year, or 40 cents a share, as customers delayed orders... Scania's quarterly sales decreased 7.7% to about $2.7 billion, led by falling demand in eastern Europe and Russia... Scania is controlled by German sports car maker Porsche SE, through its 50.8% ownership in Volkswagen AG...


* India - Ashok Leyland Cuts Investments on India Truck Slump


Chennai, India -Bloomberg, by Vipin V. Nair -Feb. 3, 2009: -- Ashok Leyland Ltd., India’s second- biggest truckmaker, will cut spending plans by as much as 39 percent and review a venture with Nissan Motor Co. as a slowing economy saps demand for commercial vehicles... The company expects to spend 20 billion rupees ($410 million) in the three years starting April 1 compared with an earlier plan for 33 billion rupees, Chief Financial Officer K. Sridharan said in an interview today. The truckmaker may also cut the capacity of a new plant due to open next year, he added... Ashok Leyland joins larger rival Tata Motors Ltd. in slashing spending on new factories and facilities after slowing demand for commercial vehicles led to an 84 percent plunge in profit last quarter...


* USA - Paccar offers CARB-approved diesel particulate filters

USA -Land Line Magazine -February 2, 2009: -- Paccar, the parent company of Kenworth and Peterbilt, says it’s come up with an aftermarket passively regenerating diesel particulate filter that meets EPA and California clean air standards... The diesel-particulate filter will be available through Kenworth and Peterbilt dealers in the U.S. and Canada... The company says the Engine Control Systems Purifilter can be installed on 1993 through 2006 model-year heavy-duty trucks from several manufacturers. No word yet on how much it costs...
