* Kenworth Extends Rebate To OOIDA Members
USA -Trucking Info -13 Jan 2009: -- Kenworth has extended through 2009 its rebate program with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association... The program offers a $1,500 rebate to OOIDA members on qualifying purchases of new Kenworth sleeper trucks. Trucks eligible include the Kenworth T660, T800 and W900 models with 72-inch AeroCab or 86-inch Studio AeroCab sleeper, and the T2000 model with 75-inch Aerodyne sleeper. Buyers must show their OOIDA membership card to their Kenworth dealer at time of purchase in 2009...
* Cummins Say's It's Ready for 2010
USA -Trucking Info -13 Jan 2009: -- Cummins reaffirmed Monday that its entire on-highway product range will be ready to meet the new Environmental Protection Agency regulations for the North American market beginning in 2010... Cummins says it will offer a range of engines from the 6.7-liter ISB to 15-liter ISX... However, published reports indicate the Environmental Protection Agency is concerned that the copper zeolite Cummins plans to use could case carcinogenic dioxins... Cummins announced last August that it had changed its mind about using selective catalytic reduction, or SCR, for 2010 engines, citing "recent advancements in catalyst technology"... Other engine manufacturers are using iron zeolite in their catalytic process...
* Cummins cuts another 800 jobs; officers’ pay cut by 10% for 2009
Columbus,Ind,USA -The Trucker News Services -13 Jan 2009: -- Cummins Inc. will reduce its permanent professional workforce worldwide by at least 800 employees by the end of February and freeze salaries for the year, the company said Tuesday... As part of the latest reductions, Cummins will offer a second voluntary retirement package to certain active professional employees in the United States. The remainder of the reductions will result from involuntary terminations from Cummins’ operations around the world... The company also will reduce the salaries of its officers by 10 percent for 2009...
* USA - Daimler Trucks lays off 2300
Gastonia,N.C.,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -12 Jan 2009: -- Daimler Trucks says it will lay off workers at three North Carolina Freightliner plants and one in its home base of Portland, Ore... More than 2,300 workers are expected to get pink slips, taking effect March 13... Chris Patterson, president and CEO of Daimler Trucks North America, said the layoffs are in response to the current global recession and weak demand for commercial vehicles...
* General Dynamics, Force Protection Bid on Truck Order
Falls Church,VA,USA -Bloomberg, by Edmond Lococo -Jan. 13, 2009: -- General Dynamics Corp. will help Force Protection Inc. build the Cheetah truck through an existing venture as the two companies jointly bid on a contract potentially valued at $6.5 billion to supply the U.S. with as many as 10,000 armored vehicles for the war in Afghanistan... The Force Dynamics venture submitted a bid yesterday for the new MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle... The venture, formed in 2006 to build Force Protection’s Cougar truck, was expanded in the past month to include the Force Protection-developed Cheetah, he said...
