Toronto,ONT,CAN -The London Free Pres, by Norman De Bono -7 Nov 2008: -- Workers at the company's Navistar plant in Chatham -- 470 of whom received layoff notices this week -- cheered the province's stand... Not so fast! ... Ontario Economic Development Minister, Michael Bryant said yesterday, "There is an agreement in place. Taxpayer dollars have been spent... Navistar has to fulfil their obligations, which is what we want them to do. But if they don't, we will enforce that contract and we will make them pay'' some of the money back... Bryant called the job cuts "totally unacceptable'' and warned Navistar would face repercussions if the layoffs breach the contract it signed with the bailout...
* India - Shriram Transport cuts lending for new trucks
Mumbai,India -Reuters, by Kaustav Roy & Janaki Krishnans -Nov 7, 2008: -- Commercial vehicle financier Shriram Transport Finance Co Ltd expects a muted growth in 2008/09 as the company has scaled down its lending for new commercial vehicles, a top official said... Indian auto makers have been facing the heat due to the credit crunch as lack of financing hit customer demand... Commercial vehicle makers Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland have already taken steps to cut output to match reduced demand...
