SAFETY & TRAFFIC FLOW * USA - I-10 proposal: Restrict trucks from left lane
El Paso,TX,USA -El Paso Times -11 Nov 2008: -- Restricting semi-trucks from using the left lane of inner-city Interstate 10 is a good idea that merits at least a test period. City Council seems poised to send such a proposal to the Texas Department of Transportation... There are two good reasons for the restriction:
* Safety: With semi-trucks now spread over all lanes, drivers tend to weave through traffic. Lane changing on a busy interstate is a danger in itself.
* Traffic flow: Since I-10 is a major southern route, Atlantic to Pacific, we encounter a lot of through traffic. Those vehicles, given a left lane free of semi-trucks, would not be woven amid the many thousands of local motorists entering and exiting.
