MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS * WORLDWIDE: Transportation Acquisitions Slow

The late summer credit crisis dramatically reduced the number of mergers and acquisitions proposed for big transportation and logistics companies in the third quarter

Washington,DC,USA -Traffic World, by William Hoffman -11 Nov 2008: -- In the USA ... Only one of 14 deals worth more than $1 billion so far this year was proposed in the third quarter, according to the accounting firm’s quarterly “Intersections” analysis... Altogether, 37 deals were announced for the third quarter, for a total of 125 so far this year. That puts 2008 on track to fall short of the 193 deals announced in 2007... Total value of large deals for the first nine months of 2008 hit $66 billion, compared with 16 $1 billion-plus deals worth $81 billion throughout 2007, and 20 large deals worth $161 billion in 2006... Deal-making outside the United States also slowed. Financial investors pulled back in the third quarter compared with strategic investors... Deals involving targets in Asia and Oceania continued to attract investors, with Chinese acquisitions the most popular. But activity slowed in Europe...
