FUNDS * USA - $60B for Transportation at Stake Nov. 4
Washington,DC,USA -Traffic World -31 Oct 2008: -- At least $60 billion in state and local transportation spending is at stake in this year's elections, the Center for Transportation Excellence reports... When voters go to the polls hit the polls Nov. 4, they will decide 26 transportation measures in 15 states, including a proposed sales tax increase in Los Angeles County that would raise up to $40 billion over 30 years for local highways, roads and mass transit... Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, New Mexico and Oregon each have two regions with transportation ballot measures and California has seven measures, including a statewide referendum on high-speed rail, according to CFTE... In Washington state, voters will decide on a sales tax increase that would fund a $17.8 billion, 20-year mass transit plan... Of the 26 measures up for vote, 16 would raise or renew sales taxes, five involve property taxes and three would raise bonds...
