* Oshkosh awarded $1.2 billion contract for military trucks

Milwaukee,WI,USA -The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, by Rick Barrett -Oct. 31, 2008: -- Oshkosh Corp. has received a $1.2 billion contract to build roughly 6,000 more U.S. military trucks used heavily in Iraq... The vehicles are new versions of trucks that Oshkosh has built for years. One version, known as the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck, or HEMTT, now comes from the factory with 4,000 pounds of armor already installed... The trucks will be built in Oshkosh over about three years, according to the company, with the first deliveries taking place this month... It would have provided a stable flow of business for Oshkosh's defense segment for 10 years, said analyst Charles Brady with BMO Capital Markets...


* Cummins’ Third-Quarter Profit Rises 24%

Columbus,IN,USA -Transport Topics -31 Oct 2008: -- Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. said Friday its third-quarter profit jumped 24% on stronger international sales, but the company lowered its full-year sales outlook... Engine sales rose 6% to $2.28 billion, while earnings before interest and taxes gained 3% to $160 million... Heavy-duty truck market sales rose 21%, driven by market share gains in North America, Cummins said... Competitor Caterpillar Inc. said in June that it would exit the heavy-duty truck engine market in North America after 2010...
