Cerberus began entertaining offers for Chrysler less than a year after acquiring it. Industry outlook has worsened in recent months... US auto sales tumbling this year to their lowest level in more than 15 years...


* USA - Paccar’s 3Q Income Steady

Bellevue,WA,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2008: -- Heavy-duty truck maker Paccar Inc. said its third-quarter profit about matched that of the same quarter a year ago, as it earned $299 million, or 82 cents a share, compared with $302.3 million, or 81 cents, a year ago... Net sales and financial services revenue totaled $4 billion, which included $3.68 billion in truck-related revenue, the company said Tuesday... Truck sales are expected to be about 150,000 vehicles this year and to improve slightly in the second half of 2009, in the range of 170,000 to 210,000, as fleets replace vehicles after several years of lower purchases, he said in a statement...



* USA - Eaton Reports Higher 3Q Income; Cuts ’08 Forecast

Cleveland,OH,USA -Transport Topics -20 Oct 2008: -- Vehicle parts manufacturer Eaton Corp. said Monday its third-quarter net earnings rose, but lowered its full-year forecast due to economic conditions... Third-quarter net income rose to $315 million, or $1.87 per share, from $258 million, or $1.71, a year ago. Revenue rose 25% to $4.1 billion, Eaton said in a statement... The company lowered its 2008 earnings-per-share guidance due to “severe issues in world financial markets,” to a range of $7.10 to $7.20, from a previous forecast of $7.20 to $7.50... Eaton’s truck segment’s sales rose 15% to $620 million...




* USA - Caterpillar’s Third-Quarter Income Slips 6%

Peoria,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -21 Oct 2008: -- Heavy equipment and diesel engine maker Caterpillar Inc. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit fell 6% on weaker worldwide economies and higher commodities costs... The company’s third-quarter profit was $868 million, or $1.39 a share, down from $927 million, or $1.40, a year ago. Sales rose 13% to a third-quarter record $12.98 billion...
