Memphis,TEN,USA -The Memphis Business Journal, by Trey Heath -October 17, 2008: -- In the midst of what has been one of the most trying times for public companies throughout the U.S., transportation companies continue to suffer through the roller-coaster ride of Wall Street following a summer filled with record-breaking fuel prices... The result has taken its toll, leading some of the largest companies operating in the Memphis market to scale back operations... To fight the credit freeze and declining stock values, companies like Con-Way, Inc., are cutting earning expectations and ultimately jobs to deal with the trying times... In August, the company laid off 56 employees in Memphis at Con-Way’s subsidiary, Menlo Worldwide Logistics, Inc....
