RFID Tags * USA - California Makes It a Crime to 'Skim' Radio Frequency Identification Cards
CAL,USA -PCWorld.com, by Nancy Gohring -2 Oct 2008: -- California recently became the second state to enact a law making it illegal to steal information from radio frequency identification (RFID) cards. The law establishes a penalty that includes a fine of up to $1,500 and as long as one year in jail for somebody found guilty of secretly obtaining data from an RFID card... RFID chips retain small amounts of data that a nearby device can interpret. The chips can be utilized to store client information on a credit card or permit authorized individuals to penetrate locked office doors or vehicle doors in "keyless" entry systems... Earlier in 2008, Washington became the original state to approve a law against RFID data theft. Washington now considers it a class C felony to take information from an RFID card for the pursuit of fraud, identity theft, or additional illegal reasons...
