In spite of generally rough times in the trucking industry, several big carriers are reporting healthy third quarter earnings
Grain Valley,MO,USA -Land Line Magazine -16 Oct 2008: -- Officials with J.B. Hunt, Werner Enterprises and USA Truck reported more profitable third quarters for 2008 than in 2007... One huge player in the industry, though, lowered its earnings predictions this week for the third quarter, and one of its subsidiaries announced it is laying off 200 workers. Leaders with the Fortune 500 company YRC Worldwide said about 200 workers in Edwardsville, IL, and St. Louis at YRC Logistics operations have been offered jobs with another service provider... According to The Chicago Tribune, corporate officers of YRC lowered the company’s third quarter earnings predictions this week because of general economic concerns and lower freight volumes and prices. YRC has 60,000 employees, and its holdings include Yellow Transportation, Roadway and USF Holland...
