TRUCK BAN * USA - New York forced to review truck ban after feds challenge plan

The New York State Department of Transportation is revising a plan to force heavy trucks off state roads and onto the New York Thruway

New York,NY,USA -Land Line Magazine -October 20, 2008: -- ... after receiving word recently from the Federal Highway Administration that the proposal would be challenged under federal regulations if made into law... In May, Gov. David Paterson directed the state DOT to come up with a plan to keep large trucks – 45 feet or longer – off state routes. In June, the state agency rolled out the plan, which is estimated to cost truckers at least $10 million more a year in fuel, tolls and operating costs to route around the state roads... In a letter to the state DOT Commissioner Astrid Glynn, the federal officials said that the state’s plan “adversely affects” two federal regulations pertaining to commercial vehicle size and reasonable access...
