Shandong,China -Xinhua/Gasgoo.com/HULIQ (press release) (Hickory,NC,USA), by Kelly Wang -September 4th, 2008: -- Heavy duty truck production in east China's Shandong province now accounts for more than 30 percent of the country's total heavy truck output, Xinhua reported... Automobile industry is the mainstay industry of Shandong province, home to around 750 car-making and auto-parts enterprises... Industry-wide sales in the first seven months of this year were valued at 150 billion ($21.9 bn), up 35 percent year on year; the profit margin from the auto industry was 7.5 billion yuan, up 20.5 percent... A total of 558,000 complete vehicles made in Shandong were sold in the seven-month period, up 28 percent from a year earlier...
* Canada - Cars & Light Trucks sales fall
Toronto,ONT,CAN -The Canadian Press/The London Free Press -September 4, 2008: -- Canadian sales of cars and light trucks were down 7.2 per cent in August compared with 2007 as the three big North American automakers posted double-digit declines... Overall sales of cars and light trucks in Canada fell to 146,978 vehicles in August, down 7.2 per cent from 158,394 in August 2007, according to DesRosiers Automotive Reports... The industry's sales of light trucks last month fell by 11.1 per cent to 66,046, compared with August last year, while car sales fell to 80,932, down 3.7 per cent from 84,067 a year ago...

Customers can choose between five spec'ing options, including with or without the SmartCruise adaptive cruise control feature and BlindSpotter side object detection system...
* Belgium - Wabco to introduce autonomous emergency braking system
Brussels,Belgium -Truck News -3 Sept 2008: -- Wabco says it will unveil the industry's first autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system later this month at the IA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, Germany... The system will be capable of completely stopping a truck when a collision is imminent, more quickly than a driver, according to the company. The system minimizes the response time when a collision with a moving or stopped vehicle is unavoidable, Wabco said in a release... The AEB system utilizes road traffic data acquired through video and laser distance sensors and then processes the information to anticipate when danger is imminent. The system also interfaces with the braking system as well as the transmission, engine and stability control systems to intervene when necessary...
