Oakland Trucking Analysis * USA - Beacon Economics In Line For
Oakland,CAL,USA -The Cunningham Report (Long Beach,CA) -2 Aug 2008: -- The Port of Oakland Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on moving forward with a deal to hire San Rafael-based Beacon Economics to do an economic impact analysis for a "Comprehensive Truck Management Program"... The company will check out the options for cleaning up the drayage fleet and the economic consequences of those options. The estimated cost of the analysis has not been disclosed... The port board will decide whether to authorize Executive Director Omar Benjamin to negotiate and execute a contract with Beacon... The Oakland port has been under intense political pressure to take steps to clean up the drayage truck fleet that services port terminals... The Teamsters Union, as part of a nationwide campaign to organize port drayage drivers, has joined forces with environmental organizations to push two agendas at once - clean air and unionization of drivers...
