From tankers to dump trucks, Southeast Texas companies are looking for truckers

Beaumont,TX,USA -The Beaumont Enterprise, by RYAN S. CLARK -August, 24, 2008 : -- The classified ads ballyhoo 401K plans, life and health insurance, signing bonuses of up to $5,000, regular weekday hours and annual salaries topping $100,000. But the help that's wanted has nothing to do with performing surgery, taking lawsuits to trial, selling real estate or being a puppet master for Big Business... This occupation simply is a matter of going from Point A to Point B - in a truck... From tankers to dump trucks, Southeast Texas companies are looking for truckers, with the demand expected to grow with $15 billion in industrial projects under way and the economic ripples already spreading across the land... Robert Foster, a labor market analyst for Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas, said there are more than 220 available truck-driving jobs in the area... He said the Southeast Texas construction industry has been the most affected by the driver shortage... Nationally, the trucker shortage has slowed delivery of food, clothing and gasoline, he said...
