TRUCKERS' STRIKE * Australia - Truck drivers' text strikes out

Melbourne,Australia -The Melbourne Herald Sun -June 24, 2008: -- The Transport Workers Union has told Victorian truck drivers not to join a one-day stop work on July 27 being promoted in an anonymous text message... A TWU spokesman said he sympathised with truck drivers hit by sky-rocketing fuel prices, but said the union would not vouch for a strike... As diesel hit a record 181c a litre, a text message was sent this week to Victorian truckies, saying: "The Government is bringing the trucking industry to its knees. We need to band together and show them we will not roll over and go broke."... But the TWU spokesman said a strike was not the answer and drivers should come to the union, which could negotiate new contracts for drivers that factor in fuel increases...
