TAX POLICY * Canada - Liberals want to replace excise fuel with broader carbon tax
Ottawa,ONT,CAN -Globe and Mail/Truck News -8 May 2008: -- Canada's Opposition Liberal leader, Stephane Dion, is planning to propose a carbon tax system that would remove the 10 cent/litre federal excise tax on fuel and apply a broader carbon tax to a wider range of fuels, including home heating fuel... The carbon tax, which has yet to be unveiled, would raise as much as $17 billion, which would be returned to Canadians through tax cuts, according to a report... A recent Canadian Press-Harris-Decmia survey showed that 61% of Canadians are in favour of carbon taxes...
