* USA - Western Star touts 80,000-lb. hauler

Las Vegas,NV,USA -Fleet Owner -Mar 13, 2008: -- Western Star Trucks has paired its 6900 XD truck with J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers’ heavy-duty dump body to create a truck for extreme-duty mining and quarry applications built to haul loads of up to 80,000 lbs., the company said... Currently on display in the Conexpo-Con/Agg 2008, the truck features 110,000 lb. planetary drive axles, a Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine with Tier 3 off-highway emission ratings Allison 4500 RDS automatic transmission... According to the company, the 6900 XD is up to 35% more fuel efficient than traditional off-road haulers when haul distances exceed one mile...

* USA - Volvo Trucks, union reach tentative agreement

Charlotte,NC,USA -The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area -12 Mar 2008: -- Volvo Trucks North America announced Wednesday that the company and the United Auto Workers have reached a tentative agreement more than a month after a strike began at its Virginia plant... The tentative three-year agreement would cover approximately 2,600 UAW members at the New River Valley plant in Dublin, Va....


* France - Renault builds record number of trucks while "Celebration time, come on!"

Blainville sur Orne,France -Biglorryblog (UK) -13 March 2008: -- For the first time, last month Renault Trucks’ plants punched through the symbolic barrier of producing 300 vehicles in a single day. And what's fuelling that demand for more trucks? Well naturally it's being mainly fuelled by growth in Eastern European countries. And to keep up with that demand, Renault has significantly increased its plants' rate of production by bringing in weekend shifts. This has allowed the number of vehicles produced per day to rise from an average of 225 to 276, reaching a peak of 300 vehicles in February. And looking ahead, the investments of around €57 million made in 2008 at the Blainville sur Orne plant alone, which assembles all Renault cabs and the Renault Midlum distribution range vehicles, will allow even higher records to be set...


* Brazil - Tupy to supply DAF Trucks with CGI cylinder blocks and heads

* Sweden - Scania keeps on trucking with production wireless
Stockholm,Sweden -Manufacturing Computer Solutions (Dartford,England,UK) -12 March 2008: -- Heavy trucks, buses and engines manufacturer Scania reckons that by improving wireless connectivity throughout manufacturing, it has improved production efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint... The organisation is now using the ADC InterReach Unison in-building wireless solution to deliver high-quality mobile coverage for employees at its main production facility in Sweden... Scania says it wanted a system that would reduce the microwave radiation emitted by its employees’ mobile phones, and that InterReach Unison is now providing strong and uniform wireless coverage that allows mobile phones to use less signal strength, while also extending battery life...
