Truck Inspection * USA - Funds arrive via regional grant
Rocky Hill,CT,USA -Rocky Hill Post, by Lisa Backus -7 March 2008: -- Since the second serious truck crash in two years at the base of Avon Mountain, local officials in several area towns have been looking for a way to address truck safety on their own... Thanks to a regional grant recently approved by the state Office of Policy and Management, they may have found it... Rather than relying solely on state officials to provide truck inspectors, the grant will allow towns including Newington, Farmington, Berlin, Avon, Cromwell, Glastonbury and 13 others to form three regional truck-inspection squads staffed with their own federally trained police officers... The towns applied for the first-time grant to develop three truck-inspection squads with 12 officers federally trained and certified in truck inspections. They got word Feb. 19 that the initiative would be funded... All three squads would be able to work together on enforcement projects, and the midstate squad would be trained in accident reconstruction. The north central area already has an accident reconstruction squad, and the teams could work together on serious accidents...
