STUDY * USA - Disputes trucking perception

In case you think all those semis pounding through town are being cloned and soon will overwhelm the city like giant transformers, you're wrong...

DeKalb,IL,USA -The MidWeek, by Diane Strand -March 05, 2008: -- ... Most of the 16-wheelers bypass the downtown, and most of those trucks you see in downtown DeKalb and Sycamore are local delivery vans and smaller trucks... That's the report from a 2007 Truck Routing Study by the DeKalb-Sycamore Area Transportation group (DSATS)... Following some study's conclusions:

* “Less than 10 percent of the trucks observed entered and exited qiuckly enough to be considered through traffic, and less than 2 percent of the total used the IL 23/38 intersection for their maneuvers -they did not use the downtown as a tollway bypass to get to Rochelle or the I-39 corridor"

* Researchers said that even if traffic increased 100 percent, it still would be unlikely to change the study's recommendations.
