SHUTDOWN ? * USA - Truckers to talk protest options

Lebanon,PA,USA - The Lebanon Daily News, by STEVE SNYDER -16 Mar 2008: -- Mark Kirsch says truck drivers are being unfairly blamed for retail-price increases when drivers instead are victims of escalating diesel fuel prices... Drivers will meet at Esther’s Diner on Route 22 in Bethel Township at 3 p.m. today to discuss strategy to publicize their cause; one option could be a shutdown of trucks on area interstate highways beginning at midnight... “It’s been advertised nationally,” Kirsch said of the possible shutdown, which has been promoted on eBay’s Web site and at truck stops for about three weeks. Kirsch said he’s heard of similar activities taking place in Georgia and Florida... (Photo by Melissa Carlo/Winona Daily News - Bruce Fort of Ridgeway, Minn., fuels a semi in Winona after hauling 25 tons of road salt to Madison, Wis., for CD Corporation. With the cost of diesel fuel pushing $4 per gallon, Fort says, "This country is in for a rude awakening." "Food prices will rise with our expenses rising.")
