FUEL COST TROUBLES * Europe - EU to warn against fuel duty cuts
Brusell,Belgium -HGV (Dublin,Ireland) -8 Mar 2008: -- The European Union (EU) is cautioning against Member States reducing excise duty on road diesel, in a bid to soften the effect of spiralling fuel prices. The development will come as blow to hauliers across Europe who are suffering under the weight of continuous fuel increases. EU finance ministers will caution against so-called "distortionary policies" to offset the impact of energy price inflation... EU Finance Ministers have used the phrase in the past to warn against cutting taxes on fuel or giving special tax breaks or subsidies to sectors such as the road haulage industry to compensate for high oil prices...
