* USA - BAE, Navistar Truck Orders Shut Out Force Protection

Washington,DC,USA -Bloomberg, by Edmond Lococo -March 14, 2008: -- BAE Systems Plc and Navistar International Corp. won 99 percent of a $1.1 billion Pentagon order for blast-resistant trucks, all but shutting out Force Protection Inc. in a decision that surprised analysts... Force Protection won just 29 of the 2,243 vehicles ordered today for delivery by November, the Defense Department said in a statement today after the close of U.S. markets... London-based BAE received orders for 1,471, almost two-thirds of the total. Earlier awards have been split more evenly between the three...


* USA - Mahindra Trucks on I95?

Pawan Goenka, president of the company's auto services, says, "We are looking at the possibility of assembling pickup trucks in the United States through a contract manufacturer by 2010."... Mahindra has partnered with Atlanta-based Global Vehicles USA for assembling and distributing vehicles, which are expected to be priced around $25,000...


* Renault Magnum raises the roof for '08

Warrendale,PA,USA -Automotive Engineering Online, by John Kendall -February, 2008: -- The latest Renault Magnum features a 200-mm (7.9-in) higher roof line and revised exterior details including the visor and front grille... The revised model will be given its international debut at the CV Show, staged at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, U.K., in April... The instrument panel has been redesigned, still within the curved dashboard carried over from the previous model. Changes include an LCD information screen, digital speedometer incorporated in the analog rev counter, and controls for the Optidriver+ automated manual gearbox moved from the floor to a steering column-mounted selector... Other changes include the introduction of modular interior lighting, the option of a thicker sprung bunk mattress, and a range of audio/visual options. The modular lighting offers different lighting options for the front and rear of the cab, enabling the driver to alter the interior lighting according to need... The revised Magnum is available in 4x2 and 6x2 configurations, both as a rigid truck and tractor unit...
