* Germany - First hybrid truck hits European roads
Stuttgart,Germany -Truck News, by Adam Ledlow -2 Feb 2008: -- Deutsche Post World Net has become the first logistics company in Europe to trial hybrid trucks in its operations. The go-ahead for the largest fleet test in the company's history was given on Jan. 29 during the World Mobility Forum in Stuttgart... Andreas Renschler, member of the board of management of Daimler AG and Head of Daimler Trucks, has handed over the first two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec Hybrid and a Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid, to Deutsche Post World Net...
* China - Large-tonnage light trucks sell better
Beijing,China -Xinhua/chinadaily.com.cn, by Hao Zhou -1 Feb 2008: -- Although the entire light truck market experienced steady growth last year, the new China III emission standards and changes to the highway-tolls calculating methods boosted an above average boom in the niche market for large-tonnage light trucks... In the first 11 months of 2007, a total 855,106 light trucks were sold in the Chinese market, up 16.2 percent from the same period a year ago, faster than the growth rate of around 11 percent yearly growth in 2005 and 2006... Compared with a more than 60 percent increase in the heavy-duty truck market and an average of over 20 percent growth throughout the entire commercial vehicle market, the light truck market was calm...
* UK - Strong demand leads to increased production at Leyland Trucks
London,UK -TNN -31 Jan 2008: -- The increase is to help meet continued strong demand for the vehicles Leyland Trucks builds for DAF Trucks. Both companies are subsidiaries of PACCAR Inc.... The increased level of production is expected to create up to 80 new jobs. It will raise the current annual output of the plant by around 3,500 vehicles a year taking it to over the 25,000 a year mark. This announcement is good news for companies across the UK that supply components to Leyland Trucks.
