TRUCK SALES * USA - Class 8, in January worst for month since '03

USA -The Trucker -15 Feb 2008: -- According to figures provided by Ward’s Automotive, Class 8 sales in January totaled 9,600 trucks in the United States, compared to 12,034 in December, a month-to-month drop of 20.2 percent... Reported sales were 18,555 in January 2007, making for a decline of 48.3 percent in 2008 compared to the same period. By a couple of percentage points, however, the January report was first in nine months in which the sales total has fallen by less than half. On the other hand, again by a point or two, January’s drop was greater than the 46.8 percent slide for all 12 months of 2007... Continuing the bad news/good news theme, January’s total was the month’s worst going back to 2003 — but still better than the sub-9,000 figures turned in that year and the year before...
