BUREAUCRACY * Australia - Mandatory emissions reporting threatens explosion of red tape
A proposal to force transport operators to report their greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption levels may burden long-haul companies with a mound of regulatory and administrative costs
Sydney,Australia -Australasian Bus and Coach -13 February 2008: -- ... The proposal of mandatory reporting is part of a policy paper released by the Rudd Government as part of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System... Road, rail, water and air transport operators will be required to report all fuels and energy used in transport activities. Depending on what state the company operates in will determine where they report to... As such, there are serious implications for long-haul operators, according to Stuart St Clair, Chief Executive of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA)... He says if the proposal stands, long-haul operators who run facilities out of more than one state may be forced to report emission and consumption levels of each facility separately, thereby duplicating paperwork and adding to administrative costs... The ATA is calling for the Government to amend the proposal so operators can combine facilities as one, saving them the cost of having to report each facility separately...
