* USA/Canada - Border Team Cracks Down On Trucks Entering U.S.
Detroit,Mich,USA -Click on Detroit/WDIV -January 10, 2008: -- It has been a busy week for a special border enforcement security operations team... Wayne County deputies, Michigan State Police and several federal agencies teamed up to launch a four-day initiative that focused on cracking down on unsafe commercial vehicles entering the U.S. from Canada... During a press conference, officials announced officers stopped nearly 200 trucks for violations, arrested 26 illegal immigrants, arrested several drivers for possession of marijuana and a drunk driver...



* Lebanon/Syria - Trucks Stranded at Abboudieh Crossing

Beirut,Lebanon -An Nahar daily/Naharnet -11 Jan 2008: -- Long convoys of cargo trucks are queuing at the Abboudieh-Dabbousieh northern border crossing between Lebanon and Syria since Wednesday after Syrian authorities launched strict inspection procedures... It said the crisis worsened Thursday with the number of stranded trucks reaching 200 as Syrian security and customs authorities kicked off a campaign of heavy inspection of cargo headed to Syria... The daily quoted Lebanese customs officials as saying only eight trucks crossed the border into Syria on Thursday... It described the process as attempts by the Damascus regime to chokingly squeeze Lebanon's neck...
