* UK - The 2007 Truck Market
All the runners and riders, winners and losers
London,UK - Biglorryblog -9 Jan 2008: -- ... The truck market over 3.5 tonnes in 2007 finished at 50,747 – a reduction of 4,827 or 8.7% compared to 2006, making it very similar to the truck markets of the late 1990’s. However, despite what other might think I still reckon that a 50K market is pretty good and while the heavy truck sector was down by 15.1% last year, the light truck sector (i.e above 3.5 to 15 tonnes) actually rose by 2.0%. Meanwhile, as the table below shows, just about everyone took a hit last year--with the noticeable exception of MAN, (now sans ERF), Dennis and Hino...
As DAF's genial boss Stuart Hunt tells BLB: "However, despite the recent increases in oil prices and the uncertainties of the property and credit sectors in the Economy, we still see reasonably strong UK business confidence levels and if interest rates do indeed come down then there is every reason to see that the truck market will be sustained throughout 2008. Therefore, on balance we see 2008 being only slightly down on historic levels at around 48-49000 for trucks over 6 tonnes or 55-56000 units over 3.5 tonnes"... Well a 55K market would no doubt have every cheering but as they say...time will tell.... (Picture from BigLorryBlog & Figures from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders)
