DANGEROUS INDUSTRY * Pakisltan - Truckers unite, threaten strike

Transporters, still angry about the losses they sustained in the rioting, have formed their own action committee


Karachi,Pakistan -The Daily Times, by Irfan Aligi -10 Jan 2008: -- ... As they say the government is not helping them... The action committee would comprise the Oil Tankers Association, Reti Bajri Dumpers Association, Sindh Goods Truck, Trailer Owners Association, National Front Goods Association, Pakistan Transport Federation, All Pakistan Goods Transporters Welfare Association among others... Sindh Goods Truck, Trailer Owners Association president Alhaj Malik Ahmed Khan told that the governor should do something to help them. He should issue directives for intensive patrolling on the Super Highway, Northern Bypass, Indus Highway and National Highway and set up police or rangers check posts... The association’s Abdul Rahim Shah told that political parties wanted to use the riots and transporters’ issue as pressure tactics. There are already several crises such as the flour, water shortage, power outage, law and order and suicide bombing problems, the country doesn’t need any more trouble. The transporters believe that they were targeted and ruined so that the transportation of goods throughout the country came to a halt...
