Transport Costs * Australia - Soar after bushfire

Transport companies in WA's Goldfields have been forced to raise freight prices by up to 70 per cent in the past two weeks, after a bushfire closed trucking routes

Goldfields,WA,Australia -ABC OnLine -9 Jan 2008: -- ... A fire which broke out 13 days ago in the Boorabbin National Park has caused freight to be diverted by more than 500km... Holly Phillips from the Kalgoorlie Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says consumers may have to wear the cost... "It's costing them between about $500 and $800 dollars to go the extra miles around the road blocks," she says... "You know when you consider that some transport companies are doing a couple of trips a day or a couple of trips a week that cost is quite significant"...
