* USA - Mack Trucks, UAW Extend Contract Terms

Philadelphia,PEN,USA -The Houston Chronicle (Houston,TX)/The Associated Press -Dec. 13, 2007: -- Mack Trucks Inc. and the United Auto Workers have agreed to extend the terms of union contracts that would have expired at midnight Friday... It's the third time the contracts have been extended for 2,200 workers represented by UAW Local 677 in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida... The truck manufacturer is based in Allentown and is owned by AB Volvo of Sweden...


* UK - MT tests Volvo Alcolock
London,UK -Road Transport -14 December 2007: -- Volvo is adding Alcolock to its UK options list, and is confident that this anti drink-driving device has the potential to save lives... While the majority of truck drivers have a responsible attitude to drink driving, how many are blissfully unaware that the booze they consumed last night may still be in their system the next morning? These are the people that Alcolock is primarily aimed at... The option is wired into the truck's ignition system, and requires the driver to blow into it before starting the engine. Should a dangerous alcohol level be detected, the truck will fail to start...


* India - Daimler has few options for India truck partner
Mumbai,India -Reuters, by Rina Chandran -December 13 2007: -- Daimler AG is running out of options as it seeks a local partner to crack India's fast-growing truck market, but a Hero may yet come to its rescue... Global rivals Volvo and Nissan Motor Co have recently snared tie-ups with local Indian truck makers, limiting the pool Daimler can draw from... The top remaining candidate appears to be Hero Group, which controls 26 percent of No.1 motorbike maker Hero Honda Motors Ltd , and has signalled its interest in expanding into commercial vehicles...


* France - Renault Trucks to test urban vehicle in Lyon in FIDEUS programme
Paris,France -Auto Industry (UK) -13 December 2007: -- In January 2008, Renault Trucks will be carrying out an experiment in the Lyon area using a vehicle offering advanced technical solutions for urban delivery, as part of the European research programme, FIDEUS (Freight Intelligent Delivery of Goods in European Urban Spaces)... The vehicle is being presented at this week’s Truck and Bus World Forum, in Lyon (December 12th-14th), alongside the Hybrys, an urban concept vehicle using hybrid technology... As part of the FIDEUS programme, Renault Trucks has developed a delivery vehicle developed from a 190 hp Midlum (12 tonnes GVW), which features noise levels 3 dB(A) below regulatory levels and an engine compatible with the Euro5 standard that will apply from 2009...
