INFRASTRUCTURES * USA - Scaled-Down House Bill Addresses Bridge Deficiencies
MINN,USA -Minnesota Democrat/TruckingInfo -2 Nov 2007: -- A bill approved by the House Transportation Committee this week would provide $2 billion to deal with the issue of structurally deficient bridges - far less than Rep. James Oberstar's original proposal to raise the fuel tax by 5 cents a gallon to fund $25 million in bridge repairs over three years... The legislation would allocate $2 billion from the General Fund to identify and rehabilitate structurally deficient bridges across the United States and reform bridge management practices... According to published reports, Oberstar ,who is also chairman of the transportation committee, "grudgingly" offered the scaled-back bridge legislation...
