Hazleton,PA,USA -The Standard Speaker, by ED CONRAD -4 November 2007: -- The cost of diesel fuel is going through the roof – of tractor-trailer cabs, in particular – and the drivers wonder who’s to blame, although they have a good idea... “There’s a lot of chatter on the CBs (trucker-to-trucker citizens’ band radios),” said David Barber, 32, of Tunkhannock, while filling up at the Uni-Mart truck stop along Route 924 near Humboldt Industrial Park on Saturday... “And a lot of the (unpleasant) chatter obviously is about President Bush“... The chatter seems to go on all day long. It’s like it never ends... Barber was filling the tank of his Hanover Township Waste Reduction and Recycling rig at $3.379 a gallon... "One of the things that the skyrocketing cost of diesel is doing to a lot of drivers is cutting down their hours and eliminating their overtime,” he said. “The trucking companies have to make up for the high cost of fuel somehow, and these are two of the ways”... As for a reason for the consistent escalation for the price of diesel fuel – and gasoline as well – Barber had no idea...
