INFRASTRUCTURES * Australia - Coalition opposes western bypass
Brisbane,Australia -NEWS.com.au, by Melanie Christiansen and Steven Wardill -November 04, 2007: -- The Federal Coalition has ruled out funding a proposed highway to funnel trucks away from suburban Brisbane – a plan the State Government is spending $17 million investigating... Federal Transport Minister Mark Vaile yesterday said the Coalition opposed the concept of a western bypass road to link the Warrego Highway near Ipswich with the Bruce Highway at Caboolture... Instead, he promised to create an inner-ring road system around the central business district by committing $600 million to the City Council's proposed Northern Link tunnel from Toowong to Kelvin Grove... Long-haul trucks passing through Brisbane would then either travel along the Logan and Gateway motorways, or the Centenary Highway-Western Freeway-Northern Link route...
