Peoria,ILL,USA -The Peoria Journal Star, by John Sharp -October 17, 2007: -- Slowing traffic through Downtown is necessary if people are to eventually move into the Warehouse District, a city councilman told the traffic commission Tuesday... Efforts to slow traffic through Downtown is part of the city's efforts at New Urbanism, a concept endorsed by the council which strives to build traditional, walkable communities... Earlier this year, the Illinois Department of Transportation denied the city's request to change Washington from MacArthur Highway to near Harrison Street from six lanes with no parking to a three-lane roadway, allowing traffic each way, a center turn lane, on-street parking and wider sidewalks...
