* "Green" logistics it's not an economic sector; it's a gang
Los Angeles,CAL,USA -The International Herald Tribune, By James Flanigan -19 Sept 2007: -- ... The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, the largest port complex in the United States, are also being required by state and local regulators to reduce air pollution from their operations or face a halt to needed expansion... In response, the ports have developed a plan that would sharply reduce air pollution during the next five years even as trade expands. As part of that plan, all trucks coming to take cargo from the ports will have to be replaced or retrofitted with new engines within five years... Husing, the economist who wrote the official analysis of the anti-pollution program, said a more expensive operation would result. But the reduction of vehicle emissions will allow expansion at the port... That will create, Husing estimated during an interview, "well over half a million jobs" in logistics. And logistics, he added, "is everything from wholesale trade, to truck, rail, air and water transportation, to general warehousing. It's not an economic sector; it's a gang"...
