TRUCKING INDUSTRY COMMENTS * USA - Heavy trucks' impacts can't be ignored

Madison,WI,USA -The Capital Times, by Dave Zweifel -17 Sept 2007: -- Everything from bread and milk to big SUVs and heavy equipment has to be delivered to keep the economy moving, and the nation has provided a highway transportation system that makes it possible for bigger and heavier trucks to lead the way... As truck traffic increases -- and it is growing by leaps and bounds -- our highways and bridges are having to be rebuilt with alarming frequency. Do you suppose that 3,000-pound cars damaged that I-35W bridge in Minneapolis as much as did those 40-ton semis that crossed it each day for 40 years?... But while we're saving money on the cost of delivery, how much are we being forced to spend to repair the damage to our transportation infrastructure? And how much are we paying for the loss of safety?... Sometime soon this nation must face the problems brought on by the deadly mix of big trucks and cars... (Static Bob's Photo Art Gallery)
