DRIVERS' SHORTAGE * Canada - Trucking industry in desperate need of new drivers

An industry that's key to the health of the BC economy is desperate to find new workers

Vancouver,BC,Canada -News 1130, by Shane Bigham -September 11, 2007: -- ... The trucking industry needs nearly 5,000 new drivers each year for the foreseeable future... Paul Landry with the BC Trucking Association says they're a growing industry, the demand is increasing and they have an aging workforce. He also says part of the problem is with new driver training. Add all these factors together, and he says the industry is short about 2,000 drivers right now, despite the fact that a new hire can make more than $50,000 a year... Landry says some trucking companies have been forced to cut their client list because of the driver shortage, while many clients have had to wait for their products to be moved...
