The trouble is there's a shortage of parking spaces for the big rigs in some parts of the country... It's not so bad in Nebraska and Iowa, but in the northeast corridor, around Chicago and near other big cities, there is a shortage of parking... The American Trucking Association predicts there will be 3.7 million trucks on the nation's highways by 2016, up from 2.76 million in 2006... The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration estimates that in 2005, the most recent year for which figures were available, there was a daily truck-parking demand for 56,000 public spaces, but only 28,000 were available...
