US Garbage Trucks Spruce up With Biodiesel
New York,NY,USA -Reuters/Facts About Ethanol, by Rebekah Kebede -June 18, 2007: -- “Together, the six cities’ [NY, Seattle, Portland, Berkeley, San Francisco, and Grand Rapids] use of biodiesel cuts regular diesel use by more than 2.3 million gallons per year. The United States uses about 50 times that amount of diesel in a day”... Many of the garbage trucks that roar through some of the biggest US cities are cleaning up their act by burning biodiesel which can reduce toxic tailpipe emissions... Garbage truck fleets in a growing number of cities, are switching to the alternative fuel which experts say can cut soot and greenhouse gas emissions at no extra cost... The trend comes amid a nationwide push to displace fossil fuels with home-grown renewable energy like biodiesel and ethanol, which the White House hopes will eventually reduce US dependence on foreign oil shipments...
