* UK - Volvo Trucks make it easier to select the most environmentally-sound whole-of-life vehicles

Chester,UK -Easier Motoring -5 June 2007: -- To mark World Environment Day (June 5 th), Volvo Trucks is presenting an updated version of its web-based tool for transport companies - Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)... With this environmental declaration, both truck owners and transport customers can see the environmental impact of different truck models during the vehicle’s entire life-cycle as EPD describes the entire environmental impact of a Volvo truck from production to scrapping and recycling... The system also enables the user to make calculations based on their own fleet of vehicles...


* Sweden - Scania to test Neste Oil NExBTL biodiesel

Stockholm,Sweden -Automotive World (UK) -6 June, 2007: -- Scania is collaborating with Neste Oil to test low emissions NExBTL biodiesel fuel... Scania will subject NExBTL fuel blends to environmental and operational trials, beginning in autumn 2007 and ending in late 2010...


* USA - Navistar files suit over Ford's diesel engines

Detroit,Mich,USA -The Detroit News -June 07, 2007: -- Navistar International Corp., a diesel-engine supplier to Ford Motor Co. for more than 25 years, accused the automaker of violating a contract by developing its own diesel for the F-150 pickup truck. Navistar seeks "hundreds of millions" of dollars in damages in a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago. Navistar has been supplying diesel engines to Ford for the Super Duty since 1979. Navistar's contract runs through 2012. Navistar's lawsuit is "without merit," Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley said...

India -Road Transport (UK) -7 June 2007: -- We remarked a couple of days ago that the Indian truck market is showing signs of cooling off... This article suggests that this is in fact the case. Tata, India's biggest CV producer is both cutting production and may be laying off staff. Its May sales were down by six per cent... But here is news that Ashok Leyland, India's second largest truck manufacturer, is going out into the markets with a view to raising $250 million for plant expansion both at its Ennore and Uttaranchal plants. Ashok Leyland's truck business dropped by 17 per cent in May, but its Bus division seems to be booming, meaning that aggregate sales were in fact up by three per cent last month... And here is news that Eicher's truck sales went up 16 per cent in May...

* USA - Freightliner tractor meets Euro standard
USA -Road Transport (UK) -6 June 2007: -- Cascadia, Freightliner's replacement for its Century and Columbia Class tractor units, boasts a Euro crash-tested cab and is ready for SCR emissions control technology... This gives Daimler a bonneted truck range that could be sold straight into European markets... The new Freightliner will also be the first recipient of Daimler's global heavy truck engine platform (HDEP) which will be launched in the US in August. The Cascadia will be offered with a choice of the DDC Series 60, Caterpillar...
