Almost half of those checked Tuesday weren't roadworthy
Edmonton,Alberta,Canada -The Edmonton Journal -May 30, 2007: -- Less than a third of the large vehicles stopped by police on Whitemud Drive on Tuesday afternoon passed inspection... Officers and inspectors checked 131 commercial vehicles over 4,500 kilograms at a checkstop on Whitemud Drive and 53rd Avenue. The inspections covered mechanical problems, cargo securement, weight and dimension violations, dangerous goods regulations and drivers' hours of service... Only 30 per cent of vehicles passed inspection, and 47 per cent were taken off the road. Of the latter group, nine trucks had to be towed away...
