BORDER TROUBLES

* Russia/Georgia - Crossing blocked by trucks
Russia -Radio New Zealand (Wellington,New Zealand) -8 Jan 2007: -- About 60 trucks from ex-Soviet Georgia were blocking a border crossing into Russia on Sunday in protest at Moscow turning away their cargo of oranges. The protest is now in its third day... Russian police and border guards are at the crossing, in the Caucasus mountains. On Sunday they were reinforced with extra troops and armoured vehicles... Russian television showed a long line of trucks laden with oranges backed up along a narrow alpine pass. Some hauliers have thrown the fruit into the snow because it is now rotten...

* Belarus/Russia: Blocks transit of Russian oil
Minsk,Belarus -Dominican Today (Dominican Rep) -8 Jan 2007: -- Belarus has blocked the transit of Russian oil through its territory to European countries including Germany and Poland, news reports said Monday, raising the stakes in a bitter energy dispute between Russia and the neighboring former Soviet nation... The head of the Russian state pipeline operator Transneft, Simon Vainshtok, accused Belarus of siphoning off Russian oil through the Druzhba, or Friendship, pipeline that was destined for Europe since the weekend...
