ELAA survey continues debate on Conferences
Brussels,Belgium -Transport Intelligence -31 Oct 2006: -- The European Liner Affairs Association (ELAA) has, as part of its response to a European Commission's Issues Paper, submitted detailed results of a Customer Survey that it recently carried out among European shippers, including importers, exporters and freight forwarders... ELAA stressed that the survey represented only a small sample of its Members' customers but feels it makes a serious contribution to the debate over the replacement of Regulation 4056/86... The Issues Paper, published by the Commission's DG Competition in late September discusses ELAA's Revised Proposal as part of a process to formulate Guidelines on the application of competition rules... The survey revealed that shippers however felt these elements to be very useful in a system replacing conferences... "For example; 80% felt that carriers discussing trade developments, including supply of capacity and demand, would be helpful; 75% supported carriers publishing their own supply/demand forecasts and all respondents welcomed the idea of a timely port-to-port volume database"...
