The 240 packages processed in a distribution center every second are fast!
NY,USA -Forbes, by Robert Malone -8 Nov 2006: -- That is what UPS is doing at the peak of their holiday season... On Dec. 20 UPS will deliver over 21 million packages in the U.S.--six million more than their average day’s volume... FedEx on the other hand will deliver 8.5 million pieces on their peak day of Dec. 13... On Dec. 22, UPS expects to ship by air 5.6 million packages... For comparison purposes it should be noted that on Dec. 19 the U.S. Postal Service will pick up in excess of 280 million greeting cards and letters for delivery by Dec. 23... The number of UPS tracking requests grows to more than 130 million over the peak week. On an average day they handle about 10 million requests. They expect this year to have 25 million requests in one day...
