* USA - Bush Meets Detroit
NY,USA -Forbes, by Joann Muller -13 Nov 2006: -- Detroit is finally getting the White House's attention. Six months after they first began knocking on the door, and a week after the Democrats took over Congress, the Big Three automakers will be sitting down, face to face, with the president... President Bush touched a nerve earlier this year when he said that General Motors and Ford Motor should develop "a product that's relevant" rather than look to Washington for help with their heavy pension obligations... When it comes to energy, Detroit's Big Three will tout their development of millions of flexible-fuel vehicles that can run on gasoline or ethanol. But they’ll point out that until ethanol pumps are widely available, Americans will continue to be dependent on gasoline... At least one thing is now in Detroit's favor: Since the Democratic sweep of Congress, Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., a champion of U.S. automakers, is likely to become the new chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he will influence policy that affects the industry...
